The first of January usually brings a flood of pressure to ‘hit the gym’ or ‘organise that junk drawer.’ But for expectant parents, New Year’s resolutions take on a whole new meaning.
If you’re new here and curious about the person behind these posts, you can learn more on my About page.
Instead of just self–improvement, these resolutions are about preparing your heart, home, and family for the exciting journey ahead.
Here are 5 meaningful New Year’s resolutions for expectant parents that will make the coming year truly special.
1. Resolve to Document the “Waiting” (Not Just the Arrival)
It is so easy to get caught up in the finish line—the due date. But the weeks leading up to it are precious, too. My first resolution for you is to stop waiting for the “perfect moment” and start documenting the now.
Take the photos of the bump. Write down the cravings. Capture the excitement.
- My tip: Pop your little one’s future outfit on top of your bump for a milestone photo. A Personalised Baby Vest from my Etsy shop is perfect for this. It anchors the memory (“Coming Soon 2026!”) and makes for an adorable keepsake photo you’ll treasure when they are actually wearing it a few months later.
- Amazon Find: A structured journal is a lifesaver if you want to remember the details but feel short on time. The Clever Fox Pregnancy Planner is a beautiful, vegan-leather logbook that guides you through every stage. With specific sections for trimester planning, doctor visits, and personal reflections, it’s a wonderful way to organise the “busy-ness” of pregnancy while creating a unique keepsake of your journey.
2. Resolve to Set Aside “Quiet Bonding” Time
Life is busy. Between work, appointments, and researching prams, it’s easy to disconnect. Resolve to spend one quiet hour a week just bonding with your baby before they arrive.
This might sound silly, but talking or singing to your bump is a real way to bond. The NHS actually encourages this, noting that babies can hear sounds from around 24 weeks and find your voice comforting.
- My suggestion: Use this time to handle the items your baby will use. Gently shaking one of my handmade crochet rattles near your bump isn’t just cute; it’s a way to introduce gentle sounds. Plus, having these soft, tactile items ready helps you visualise the baby who will soon be holding them.

3. Resolve to Curate Your Nursery: A New Year’s Resolution for Expectant Parents
There is a temptation to buy everything plastic and flashing that you see on the high street. But for this New Year, resolve to build a nursery with intention. Choose quality over quantity. Pick items that have a story.
Every new mum deserves something meaningful and handmade. Mass–produced plastic ends up in the bin; handmade items end up in the memory box.
- Smart tip: My Crochet Booties and Bonnets are designed to be heirlooms. They are made with soft, safe materials and that “sprinkle of mum-magic” you can’t get from a factory. They look beautiful on the nursery shelf while waiting for the baby, and even better on their tiny feet.
4. Resolve to Prioritise Your Sleep (While You Can!)
Okay, I know—”sleep while the baby sleeps” is annoying advice later on. But right now? Sleep is essential. Pregnancy is hard work (I built this business on caffeine, I know the struggle!), but rest is vital for your physical and mental health.
- Amazon Find: Sleeping while pregnant shouldn’t feel like a workout! If you’re struggling with back pain or just can’t get settled, the Nuliie Pregnancy Pillow is a lifesaver. It’s like having six pillows in one that wrap around you to take the weight off your bump and improve circulation. It’s one of those “wish I’d bought it sooner” items that helps you prioritise your rest before your little one makes their debut.

5. Resolve to Learn (Without the Panic)
Finally, resolve to educate yourself about birth and the newborn days, but filter out the horror stories. Stick to trustworthy sources that empower you rather than scare you. Make these New Year’s resolutions great as expectant parents.
- Trustworthy Source: The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) offers brilliant antenatal courses and local meet–ups across the UK. It’s a great way to make friends who are due at the same time as you.
